BQ25792: Chip selection

Part Number: BQ25792
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV840, BQ25616, , TPS61230A, BQ25611D

Hi team,

The customer would like to find a kind of chip which can meet the following requirements:

1. About 2 A charging, 2 A discharging

2. output 5 V (output voltage should be higher 5.5 V, or it's adjustable)

3. Automatically detect load discharge, do not switch on or off

4. 2-4 indicators - includes low-battery, status, full-charge, and can be used for portable power supplies

5. 4.2-V single-cell Li-ion battery charging

Could you help give some advice? Thanks.

Best Regards,

Cherry

  • Hi Cherry,

TI does not have a single IC that provides all of the requirements above.  We have several that meet 1, 3 and 5 like BQ25792 or BQ25611D for example. Our NVDC chargers' topology limits the system output voltage to the battery regulation voltage, i.e. 4.2V so a boost converter following the charger system output is required to get 5V.  Regarding 4, if indicators are needed, I assume the customer wants only a standalone charger, i.e. no host processor to I2C read BQ25792 charger integrated ADC and then use host GPIO to drive indicators?  If so, then we are limited to BQ25616 plus boost converter (possibly TPS61230A) and then possibly two TLV840 SVS's to monitor battery voltage and drive LEDs.
