LP38512-ADJ: Junction to Ambient Thermal Resistor SO PowerPad

Part Number: LP38512-ADJ

Hi Team,

Would please help to confirm junction to ambient thermal resistor of LP38512-ADJ(SO PowerPad)? It's 168W/C in the datasheet, seems to be so large. The test results show it should be around 40W/C per customer's feedback.

Customer would like to use it at 3.3V->1.8V/600mA. But with with 168W/C in the datasheet, this cannot work.

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Livia

  • Hi Livia,

Note 5 says that the thermal metrics are simulated using a 2 layer PCB, which is not the typical board that is used now. The JEDEC High-K 4-layer board is the standard board layout that we use to simulate the thermal metrics, and will for sure show better thermal performance than what is shown in the datasheet. If you would like I can submit a thermal model request to get new thermal metric data.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

Yes, please help to submit a thermal model request. Customer need the thermal resistance value to determine if this part can work as per their requirement.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Livia,

I've submitted a request for a new thermal model. Please note that this request normally has a lead time of 2-3 weeks, but with the holidays upon us it will likely take longer than this. I'll update this post when I have the results.

    Regards,

    Nick
