TPS63031: Light Load power consumption

Part Number: TPS63031

HI

We make use the TPS63031 chip for our low power sensor. Unfortunately, the device is not configured with light load with PS/SYNC = GND.

1) The input power is 5.5mA@4V, while output is not connected to any load or only supplying quiescent current to ICs downstream.

2) When the device is shutdown, input is at 0mA@4V.

Is this normal that this device consumes so much power or the efficiency is so low at light load, when PS/SYNC is shorted to VINA?

Note that the EN is pull up to VIN with 1M, which is different from the reference design. Reference design tied, VINA, EN, and PS together. Is our way of connection acceptable?

Looks forward to kind soul to point to the right direction.

  • Hi  Shanguo,

that is fine with EN connected to VIn by a 1M resister.

for PS is pulled up, power save mode is disabled and you will get poor EFF performance during light load. that is make sense.

additional, do you need to start-up with high temperatures?

    Regards

    Tao
