UC2844A: SMPS Design: UC2844 is it recommended for new design

Part Number: UC2844A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UC2844

Hi,

Planning to make new SMPS design, previously had used UC2844 and external FET, in almost all of my Flyback converter design(20-60W) since last few years.

Input voltage range: 200VDC to 800VDC, Power wattage: up to 20W.

So, since last many years I am using UC2844, do TI still recommend UC2844 or new IC for new designs in future, e.g. UCC28C4.

Regards,

Mukesh

  • Hi Mukesh,

UCCx8C4x is a BiCMOS process device , which is pin to pin compatibility to the UCx84x family , UCCx8C4x offers lower power consumption and faster current sense  oscillator frequency.  but UC2844 still recommended if it can meet your requirement and you are familiar with it.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks Jaden,

UC2844 definitely meets requirement. Just was thinking as using this since last 10 years or so. So was having concern regarding obselence, your recommendation of it going forward,  and was looking at few articles which shows replacing UC2844 with UCC28C4.

Anyways better for us also to use the same platform for SMPS rather than using new IC.

    Thanks,

    Mukesh
