LP8733: How to program default setting of LP8733

Part Number: LP8733

Hi,

As we know we can I2C program LP8733 after system power up. And we could program the voltage value and so on.

But the setting will disappear after power down.

I did not find there is NVM in side device. How could we realize a new setting in LP8733?

  Any external EEPROM needed?

  • Hello Shuang,

Unfortunately it is not possible to re-program the OTP default values. You can only change the volatile registers and setting will be lost on power down.

You would need housekeeping micro controller for example for writing the new settings through I2C before turning on bucks/LDOs.

Please see configuration guide for more details: https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snvu582a/snvu582a.pdf

    Thanks.

  • Hi Tom,

Double confirm with you. You mean if customer want to use LP8733 with special setting, they must add one more MCU in there board? Does this make sense? I assume discrete solution will be much better.

I remember our TPS650330 have NVM inside. And customer could re-program the default setting in factory.

Why LP8733 do not support this memory?

  • Hello Shuang,

That is correct OTP cannot be reprogrammed. It is programmed only once in our production line. Memory that can be programmed in-system have always some overhead and are more costly.

There are a lot of different OTP spins with different output voltages/currents/sequences available for this product family. If the business is high enough (>1M LNR) we can develop a custom OTP for customer with their special settings.

    Thanks.
