TPS54527: Excessive no-load power consumption

Part Number: TPS54527
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54528,

Hi TI

TPS54527DDAR this chip, we found that the power consumption is too large, 12V input and 3.3V output. Even if all 3.3V loads are removed, the 12V input has a self loss of 30mA.

When the power chip is removed, the 12V input port measures the current at UA level;Help explain why this phenomenon occurs?

  • Even when no current is drawn from the 3.3V output, the IC will continue switching to regulate the output voltage. TPS54527 does not have pulse skipping mode so it draws higher current at the input than other parts which will have pulse skip mode like TPS54528. Both these devices are p2p compatible so you can try the TPS54528 to lower the no load input current consumption.

    Thanks,
