TPSM63606: Use in outputs smaller than 1V

Part Number: TPSM63606
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM82821, LMR51420, LMZ31506, LMZ31704, LMZ31503, TPSM82810, TPSM82813

Hi Team

My customer is considering using TPSM63606 for Enpirion replacement, but has concerns about the output voltage range as the aim is to output voltage 0.9V.(We promoted TPSM82821 but their board has 6V)

Could you provide some design advices for this output value?(Such like setups, LDOs)

Regards

David

  • Hi David, what is the Vin range and output current spec here? We can find a part with a sub-1V FB reference. For example, the LMR51420 36V/2A converter goes down to 0.6V.

  • Hi Tim

Much appreciate it for your response!

We have no detailed in/output information, but as I mentioned, this is for the EOL'd Enpirion replacement and EN6337QI, EN6347QI, EN6362QI were the devices the customer was using. Therefore I'd expect the input to be somewhere around 5-6V while the output should be 1V-3.3V, with the current varies from 2A to 6A based on each device.

I think they would value module solutions more which means the converter type might not be an option.

    Regards

    David

  • Hi David,

These Enpirion modules have a max Vin of 6.5-6.6V, so the TPSM63606 with 36V input rating may not be required. Take a look for example at the LMZ31506 (6A), LMZ31704 (4A), LMZ31503 (3A) module family.

    Tim

  • Hi Tim

    Much appreciate your advices.

Unfortunately the customer mentions that LMZ family is too large to take into consideration. (I think that's exactly why he was interested in TPSM63606 in the first place)

I checked our portfolio but didn't find any better solutions than TPSM828xxA and TPSM63606, although the Vin/Vout range do not meet their requirements.

Is there any chance we can win this?

  • Hi David, I will check with our marketing guys to see what's possible.

  • Hi David,

    please also take a look at the TPSM82813 (3-A), TPSM82810 (4-A) - they support a nominal Vin of 6V.

In general: in the module world as of now seldom p2p solutions exist and hence in case of the Enpirion EOL customers need to be open for compromise.

In addition to the Enpirion EOL also Torex announced the EOL of 50 products of which many are actually modules, too...
