BQ20Z45-R1: vs BQ20Z45, can they be used Interchangeably?

Hello,

I have the BQ20Z45-R1 designed into many of my products, due to the ongoing sourcing issues, my team has located stock of the BQ20Z45 (NOT -R1). I don't know anything about this part and cannot located datasheet on TI's website, can this be used interchangably? Pinout appears to be the same, not sure if the software is the same. Can you distinguish the differences between the parts?

Hello Mike,

bq20z45 is an older product. Here is the change list https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua588/slua588.pdf

Based on a quick reading of the change list, the hardware seems to be the same and you should be able to program the bq20z45-R1 firmware on bq20z45 to make it a bq20z45-R1. Please review the change list in detail to confirm.

Hi Sharish,

Can you confirm, that SLUA588 document doesn't state bq20z45 to bq20z45-R1, it just states -R1 contains a firmware upgrade and the new part numbers are DBT-R1 and DBTR-R1. Am I reading it correctly?

Hello Mike,

The changes listed are compared to bq20z45.

It says

To upgrade a previous version of the bq20z40 / z45, use the evaluation software available on power.ti.com and find the latest encrypted program in the web folders.
