BQ25175: The setting of charging current

Part Number: BQ25175

Hi team,

I have a customer design in BQ25175 and have some questions about current setting.

They found out datasheet Table5-1 mentions that ISET setting at 375Ω the charging current can up to 800mA, but at EVM User's Guide Table1-1 the charging range is 60~600mA.

The customer set at 390Ω but the current they had measure is 550~600mA. Is the setting and the current correct ?

There is another question, it seems that if the battery had over discharge it may lead to can't recharge again. When the battery voltage at 3.26V then it can't recharge again. So do you have any suggestion about this issue?

  • Hi,

The expected range of 60mA to 600mA is correct. 800mA is a typo the we will change in the datasheet.

When you are observing the device not able to charge, I am suspecting there may be some protection on the battery itself that is completely disabling CHG/DSG at this 3.26V level you are observing. I would check the datasheet for the cell you are using to see if this is the case. The BQ25175 should never even transition to Precharge current levels until the battery is below 3V so you should still be observing normal charging at ICHG at 3.26V. another option could be that there is a fault being triggered. You can check this through the STAT pin.

Thanks and let me know if you have further questions,

    Jackson
