BQ2961: Can PMOS be used instead of SC Protector

Hi,

In the below application diagram(using BQ2961), how do we use PMOS to isolate the battery incase of overcharge or overdischarge.

Also, is it possible to use NMOS on low side to achieve the same.

We are basically looking for an resettable option.

Hi,

Since the BQ2961 has only the active high output configuration, it is not likely to control back to back FET in place of the FUSE.

To have back to back FET control option, BQ77207 might be an option. You can use active low output config option to a pair of NMOS, and the NMOS is controlling a back to back PMOS FETs in the power line. Since BQ77207 does not have a LDO output, one external LDO output might be needed if the LDO feature is requried.

Hi Xiaodong,

Thanks for the suggestion.

But we are using a 2S lipo battery and BQ77027 is suitable for 3-7 cells.

Is there any other option available for 2S packs?

Hi Veeramani,

Unfortunately BQ77207 and BQ77216 are the only protector with the capability to drive back to back FETs and active low output config. They both only support down to 3s..
