TPSM63603: output volatge adjustment performance

Part Number: TPSM63603
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP, TPSM63606, LM61460

Hi team,

Here is several application details of TPSM63603 want to confirm with you.

Q1: if we want to achieve a adjsutable output based on TPSM63603, if it's accepatable we add a addtional adjustment voltage on the FB pin? Or if extra external voltage loop is needed here?

Q2: what is the control algorithm when we decrease the Vout setting suddenly? for example, change the Vout setup from 10V to 5V. Will our part still work under the FPWM with the minimum on time or directly OFF the switching?

Thanks.

Best regards

Mia Ma

  • Hello Mia,

TPSM63603 can have its output adjusted with an implementation presented in this appnote.

The output voltage error will be corrected in the control loop quite rapidly with an output voltage "setting" change. I dont see any particular concerns with operating the device in FPWM.

  • Hi Beck,

thanks for your useful sharing of the note.

For the output voltage setting change condition, the concern is the recovery time under the Vout setting decrease condition? if our part is still working with a minimum on time, will the energy become reverse to help the output cap voltage drop faster or the loop will disable all the FET switching to only follow up the output cap hold-up rule.

    Thanks.

    Best regards

  • Hello Mia,

Yes I could see the quick change in Vout setting causing the device to operate in min duty cycle to correct for the ouput error.

It would be relatively hard to quantize what that change maybe with calculation. I believe some bench evaluation will need to be done.

I know this device has been used in USB C PD applications where the output voltage was changed in this fashion and the customer found the performance to be acceptable. Unsure to the exact specification for this customer application, but I presume it should work as well. Below is PMP with some vout setting transients.
