LP38512-ADJ: usage condition with larger output cap

Part Number: LP38512-ADJ
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP38512

Hello support team,

My customer plan to use LP38512MR-ADJ and ask some questions, could you support?

Usage setup: VIN: 3.7V, VOUT: 3.0V

*What is maximum output capacitance? They plan to use with 0.1uF x5pcs + 100uF x6pcs.

*Does LP38512 have reverse current protection?

*Even if load current reach to OCP 2.6A, but if junction temperature is below Tjmax 125degC, does LP38512 have no issue like damage?

Thanks,

Koji Ikeda

  • Hi Ikeda-san,

There is not listed maximum output capacitance in the datasheet, but the 600uF is less than the 1000uF maximum it mentions to discharge during the reverse current scenario so you should be ok with this amount of capacitance. My one recommendation would be to have the same or more capacitance on the input of the LDO to avoid a large charge imbalance.

No this device does not have reverse current protection. You can see the section reverse voltage to see what conditions the device recommends to limit the 1A nominally and keep the maximum peak below 5A.

Yes if you reach over current protection and keep your junction temperature below 125C you will avoid damaging the device. Even if you do run into thermal shutdown the device will not destroy itself, just operating at a higher junction temperature will degrade the long term life time of the device.

    Regards,
