BQ2403X - charge timer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24038EVM

Hello, I am testing the BQ24038EVM. I have to configure the resistor R (TMR), to configure the time of charge.

I can see in the page 12 of SLUS618E data sheet, that the charge can finished before the time charge expire because the I(TERM detection) is true, then is possible than i have a T(CHG) = 7.5 hours, but I (TERM detection) is true before 7.5 hours and then stop the  charge of battery.

Is this true?

Thank you very much.

  • Yes, the battery can fully charge before the timer expires.  The timer is simply a safety feature that will kick in if something is wrong.  For example, if the battery is the wrong one or is too old and doesn't charge as fast, etc. the timer will stop charging in order to alert the user that something is wrong.
