PTH08T260W: PTH08T260W recommended layout

Part Number: PTH08T260W
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS82130, TPS82130EVM-720

Dear TI team,

We are developing a new design and we have chosen the PTH08T260W Power Module to manage the energy. We have searched the recommended layout in the website and in the datasheet as well but without success.

Is there a Note Application with the recommended layout?

Thank you very much for your support.

Best regards,

Iker

  • Hi Iker,

PTH08T260W is very old device and we don't have layout guide available. Could you take a look at TPS82130 in the link as below? TPS82130 should better meet your application.

For PTH08T260W, you can follow the basic buck converter layout guide. In datasheet page 2 schematic,

    1. Place input cap C1 as close as possible to device pin 2 and pin3.

    2. Place output Co1/Co2 as close as possible to device pin4 and pin3.

    3.  SENSE(pin5) must be connected to the load where you want to sense

    4. Please follow datasheet page 9 for other connections.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks,

  • Dear Nancy,

Thank you very much for your valuable support. We have decided to use your proprosed reference: TPS82130, but we have some questions:

Is this reference recommendable for a new desing?

How long is going to be manufactured this reference? Could be an obsolescence problem in a near future?

Is there a note application that defines the Rthja depending on the copper area used in the layout?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Best regards,

    Iker

  • Hi Iker,

    1. TPS82130 is very popular module. A lots of customers used this part. We recommend TPS82130 for new design.

    2. TPS82130 has been manufactured since it was released in 2016. No plan to obsolete.

    3. The junction to ambient thermal resistance on the right side in table 6.4 is based on TPS82130EVM-720. The EVM is 4 layers with 1oz copper for each layers.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks,

    Nancy

  • Dear Nancy.

Once again, thank you very much for helping us to manage this topic. After studying the purchase he have known that is not posible to get samples of this reference until June 2024 so we are now thinking about develop a DC-DC Buck with an integrated circuit and passive components, the reference that we have found is: LM2673S-5.0.

Please, could you share your knoledge and the information available about the this reference regarding to the life cycle, application notes, layout recommendations (this point in the datasheet is quite poor) and so on?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Best regards.

    Iker

  • Hi Iker,

I am not supporting LM2673S-5.0. Please generate another new post with LM2673S-5.0. Other engineer will help you. I will close this post now.

    Thanks,

    Nancy
