BQ24765: Charging Current Limits

Part Number: BQ24765

Hi Experts,

Our customer is performing a charging current test on this part, they see the datasheet states 512mA. And is asking if they will see a test failure if testing the charging current using 1A?

We were able to determine by referring to section 8.5.3 of the datasheet as shown below. When using a 10-mΩ sense resistor, the bq24765 provides a charge current range of 128 mA to 8.064 A, with 128 mA resolution.

Now, customer is asking, If they are carrying out performance testing of the raw part (not fitted to a PCBA) for qualification purposes, can they perform a charging current check at 1A or should we perform this at 512mA?

I hope you can help us. Thank you.

Kind regards,
Gerald

  • Hi Gerald,

I don't understand your questions. Few points of mine:

    1. Why did you customer think that 1A charge current will damage the part? I don't see any wordings on the datasheet that either states or implies that.

    2. If the IC is not fitted to a PCB, how do they plan to run the IC?

    Thanks,

    Peng

  • Hi Peng,

Thank you for your help. I still have not received a response from our customer hence I will initially tag this thread as resolved. In the event that we need further assistance, I will re-open this post status or create a new post instead.

    Kind regards,

    Gerald
