TPS25831-Q1: 5V/3A charger MFi certification

Part Number: TPS25831-Q1

Hi Team,

We want to use TPS25831-Q1 and meet MFi requirement. As app note said, 3A current limit  suggest place 330uF cap on CSP. To my understanding CSP line is like Vbus.

But about below document from MFI certification, USB-IF suggest that don't place 10uF on VBUS. It may be a conflict between our APP note. Let me know if I have any misunderstand.

Regards,

Roy

  • Hi Roy,

    As per USB2.0 Spec,

    1. For the downstream port of a Hub or a Host (i.e., the upstream end of a cable), the capacitance shall be no less than 120uF.

    2. For the upstream port of a Hub or a Device (i.e., the downstream end of a cable), the capacitance shall be no more than 10uF.

Since TPS25831-Q1 is a downstream port controller that provide power to the far end device, the capacitance should follow the first rule.

    Thanks.
