LM5036: LM5036 used as full-bridge controller

Hi Team,

Nice to talk with you! My customer meets a question on LM5036.

They ever used LM5036 as half-Bridge controller in DC/DC module power, now they want to improve power density, so change the topology to Full-Bridge. The question is can LM5036 be used in Full-Bridge DC/DC topology? If so, do we have some reference design/technical guidance/demo to help customer quickly on hand? And if not, do we have a new device that can be used as Full-Bridge PWM controller?

Hello Sherman,

I examined the LM5036 datasheet, EVM, and reference design. All documentation refers to the LM5036 as a half-bridge controller only. However, the LM5036 is shown as the first option on our PWM controller web page under the "Full Bridge" option, so I'm sure it can be done.

Let me ask around to try to find an example circuit, or an alternate controller recommendation.

Hello again Sherman,

A half-bridge controller, like the LM5036, can be used in full-bridge topology if two half-bridge gate drivers are used. Here is one (older) example using the UCC27201: https://www.ti.com/tool/PMP8878

If we knew more about the customers requirements we could make a better recommendation: Vin range, Vout, Iout, communication/industrial/automotive.
