BQ24630 Charger overheating - Low effectiveness - VERY Noisy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24630EVM, BQ24630

Hello,

Are the Gerber files (or PDF's of them) and the BOM available for the BQ24630EVM LiFePO4 charger circuit?

I have designed a PCB with this chip but I can only get 80% effectiveness on my charger - this is a problem because the switching losses heats up the circuitry too much.

I have designed my circuit exactly according to the development kit - so it must be the board layout.

Can you tell me if it is possible at all to have a good circuit using only a 2 layer PCB?

If you can maybe send me the BQ24630EVM Gerbers so I can use this as an input to help me with the layout

Thanks!

Pieter

  • I suggest that you get a bq24630 EVM and compare the operating waveforms between the bq24630 EVM and your PWB.  Switching chargers and switching power supplies require proper layout techniques.  If you did not follow the required layout guidelines, I would expect reduced performance.  Please use the EVM layout to minimize the chances that your design does not operate properly due to non-optimal layout.  You can review the layout in the bq24630 Users Guide.
