TPS40050: What does it mean -Q1 suffix

Part Number: TPS40050

Hi.

What is the difference between TPS40050 and TPS40050-Q1 beside the latter is AEC Qualified and temperature range is -40 to +125. Is there a difference in performance calculation? Can I replace a TPS40050-Q1 with a TPS40050 without changing my circuit?

  • Hello Andres

Unfortunately, it is not allowed to disclose the material differences between TPS40050 and TPS40050-Q1. Basically, The functionality of TPS40050 is similar/equal with TPS40050-Q1, but the reliability is different. TI made some upgrades on TPS40050-Q1 to be automotive qualified.

  • ok, but if a board using TPS40050-Q1 and it is working fine and I replace it with a TPS40050, does the outcome of TPS40050 will differ from -Q1 without making any difference in the circuit?

  • Hello Andres

I think it works if the junction temperature is less than 85ºC and if there is enough design margin.
