UCC21755-Q1: Directly Connecting OUTH and OUTL pins

Part Number: UCC21755-Q1

We plan on using the UCC21755-Q1 to drive multiple mosfets in parallel.  The power supplies are +15V/-5V

Is it okay to connect OUTH and OUTL pins directly together at the IC and run a single PCB track to the gate of the mosfets where the gate resistors are positioned.

We would prefer to run one larger PCB trace and use series resistor and diode (for turnoff) in parallel with a single resistor for turn on for each mosfet.

Are there any issues connecting OUTH and OUTL together?

Regards
Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks for your interest on the  UCC21755-Q1 part.

    • Yes OUTH and OUTL can be connected together.
    • As you are taking care of different drive strength requirement between turn on and turn off by [Resistor+diode] and different resistors. It can be tuned to your system need.
    • When planning multiple FETs in parallel its recommended to plan identical gate path to minimize the timing skew between the FETs turning on/off time.

Here is an application brief about the design and layout considerations on driving parallel FETs. It is for a different driver,  but the concepts are the same.
