LM25118: OpVal table param temperature> 150 Deg C error

Part Number: LM25118

I am using the WEBENCH Power designer to design a power supply using the LM25118 buck-boost controller.

My input conditions are Vin min=9V, Vin max=32V, Vout=15V and Iout= 6.7A, ambient temp= 85 Deg C

I would like to use a fsw of 301 kHz, when I put those conditions in the simulator I get an error saying OpVal table param temperature> 150 Deg C. I would like to understand what is causing this error and what the parameter OpVal temp means.

  • HI Shankari,

when you open the design with ambient temp of 30Deg C and then look at the graph for the IC TJ you will see that for 32 V input the LM25118 heats already up to ~ 68Deg C.

With 85 Deg ambient you will run out of spec for this device.

If you reduce the supply for the LM25118 to e.g., 9V you should be able to stay within the spec limits.
Note: for this you might use the VCCX input, but VCCX should only be connected to voltage different the 0V after the device has power up - output voltage has stabilized.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
