Hi

I would like to confirm do we need to perform the learning cycle after getting all the parameters configured on a new pack?

The reason I'm asking this question is that we have our own board and aren't able to use the Software Evaluation tool. We however are able to measure the voltage accurately after several rounds of calibration. But for the State of Charge, we still got 0 reading. We need to have the State of Charge working.

How can we proceed from here?

    Yes for all impedance track gauges you must do a learning cycle or the accuracy is compromised. the GPCCHEM tool is only the first part of configuring a new pack for gauging.

    You must complete the steps in the datasheet for optimization cycle: STEP 8: Run an Optimization Cycle.

    I would also encourage you to use the BQ34Z100-G1 and not the BQ34Z110 since the BQ34Z100-G1 as the same support for lead-acid but newer GUI interface and features.

    I still have a few things to confirm.

    Can we use the EV2400 with our own board instead of the Evaluation Module (BQ34Z100EVM)? Since we already have a prototype ready and the I2C connector is accessible.

    For the learning cycle, is it necessary to perform the learning cycle in this sequence; discharge to empty -> charge to full -> discharge to empty, as stated in SLUA903? Or doing the Charge to Full only is enough?

    Yes you can use the EV2400 to communicate as long as you have the SDA, SCL, and GND connections available. Keep in mind the EV2400 has internal pull0ups as well.

    You can follow SLUA903 or the gauge TRM which has the guide in it specifically for this gauge.

    Learning cycle should be discharge-relax-charge-relax-discharge. Update Qmax between the relax periods around charge, then Ra table during the last discharge.
