TPS65910: How to turn On and OFF

Part Number: TPS65910

Hi,

We are using TPS65910 in our OEM having AM335X. It is working fine without any issues. In our design we had pulled  the PWRHOLD pin high, so that the board goes ON with power On.

But now we have a requirement to turn on/off the PMIC. So what should we do to turn on & off  with a switch/signal..?

I would be grateful if you could give me the details.

Thanks and Regards.

JIBIN K MATHAI

  • Hi Jibin,

Please follow the "TPS65910Ax User's Guide for AM335x Processors (Rev. F)" linked here for the details in your new design.

Basically, the 2 sections copied below give the details for how to:

    4.2 INT_STS_REG.PWRON_IT
INT_STS_REG.PWRON_IT interrupt is triggered when the PWRON button is pressed. If device is in the
OFF or SLEEP states, pulling PWRON low generates a wake-up event and resources are reinitialized.

    4.3 INT_STS_REG.PWRON_LP_IT
INT_STS_REG.PWRON_LP_IT is the PWRON long-press interrupt. This interrupt is generated when the
PWRON button is pressed for 6 seconds. The application processor is allowed 2 seconds to clear this
interrupt before the action is registered as a power-down event.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks, Phil for the immediate response.

Is there any other way other than using a push button? If we use the PMIC in slave configuration what are the ways to turn OFF and ON the same PMIC.?

The slave board has the PMIC, AM335X, etc. So the master board will be having the control to turn on and off the slave board. How it should be done.?

    Hope you understand my query.

    Regards,

    Jibin.

  • Hi Jibin,

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. our TPS65910x-Q1 experts are out of office this week. Please expect a delayed response by early next week. Thank you in advance for your patience.

    Best Regards,

    Jari

  • Hi Jibin,

From what you mentioned, it looks like using a GPO (Generic Purpose Output) from the master processor to control the PWRHOLD pin of the slave PMIC is the best way to power on/off the slave PMIC.

More details about the "Device power-on/off enable conditions" are described on page 47 of the datasheet linked here.

    Thanks!
