TPS1HB08-Q1: internal current limit question

Part Number: TPS1HB08-Q1

Hi expert

For TPS1HB08, continuous load current is 11A but current limit threshold is 77A. How to understand this two parameter? Whether is device can bear 11A continuous current and 77A peak current?

  • Because of the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., TI E2E design support forum responses may be delayed the week of Nov. 21. Thank you for your patience.

  • Hi Meng,

The continuous load current is limited by the thermal. Meaning that at 70 degC ambient, the current exceeds 11A for a long time will likely cause thermal shutdown. For 77A, this is the transient for cap or bulb charging for very brief period. We limit the max current internally to protect our device, and the steady state current will be limited by thermal.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

    Regards,

    Yichi
