TLC59711: vs TLC5971: Are they P2P drop in?

Part Number: TLC59711
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5971,

Team,

TLC59711 and TLC5971 (HTSSOP-20) seems to be very close (same package, same pinout):
www.ti.com/.../compare.html

I have found the below post but it does not give 100% the confidence that those two IC are P2P drop-in:
https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/493843/are-tlc59711-and-tlc5971-protocol-compatible?

-Can you please confirm if they are P2P drop-in?
-TLC59711 has a WDT. What register setup is required on TLC59711 so that its outputs OUTxxx behaves exactly like a TLC5971?
-Is the LED current control mechanism compatible between the two?
-Any other differences that need to be taken into account?

Thanks in advance,

A.

  • Hi,

    Nice to hear you.

-Can you please confirm if they are P2P drop-in?

    Yes, they are P2P device.

-TLC59711 has a WDT. What register setup is required on TLC59711 so that its outputs OUTxxx behaves exactly like a TLC5971?

The configuration for both devices is same if you want them have same behaves

-Is the LED current control mechanism compatible between the two?

For the current control, their mechanism is same.

-Any other differences that need to be taken into account?

Their power supply voltage range have little difference, and their data transfer rate are also different. Besides, TLC5971 has VQFN package and HTSSOP package, TLC59711 only has HTSSOP package.

    Thanks,

    Best Regards,

    Ives.
