BQ24074: ITERM 20mA

Part Number: BQ24074
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25180

Hi team,

1. can this device achieve 20mA ITERM with over 400mA charging current?

2. and does this device support JEITA thermal spec?

  • Hi Fred,

    1. can this device achieve 20mA ITERM with over 400mA charging current?

Yes, if the charge current is set for 400 mA, you should be able to achieve 20mA with the ITERM pin using a resistor of about 1483 ohms at the ITERM pin along with a resistor of about 2225 ohms at the RISET pin.

    2. and does this device support JEITA thermal spec?

No, the BQ2407x family only supports HOT/COLD.

If you're looking for a device with JEITA, there is the BQ25180 that is an I2C refresh of the BQ2407X family with additional features. It can be also be set for 400mA and an ITERM of 20 mA (5% of ICHG) and features JEITA.

Is an I2C or standalone device preferred?

  • Hi Anthony,

what's the difference between HOT/COLD and JEITA spec?

  • Hi Fred,

Hot/Cold will only have two thresholds and will cutoff charge if the measured temperature falls outside of these thresholds.

JEITA will have four thresholds: Hot/Warm and Cool/Cold. When the device is in warm, it will continue to charge the battery but to a reduced battery regulation voltage. When the device is in cool, it will reduce charge by at least 50%.
