TPS659037: TPS6590376ZWSR Booting Issue

Hi Team,

We Have TPS6590376ZWSR 0x8A 1.3 version PMIC.

I have made the connection same as attached PCB.

But during boot, i am only getting 1.8V at LDOVRTC. I am not getting any voltage at SMP3 or LDO8/9 or at any SMPS or LDO.

I have made boot0=0 and boot1=0, and during boot pressed PWRON to GND.

Please guide me, what wrong i have done?

Hi Divyesh,

LDOVRTC is a 1.8V LDO regulator so the regulator is operating as expected. The specification for LDOVRTC is found in Table 4.6.

I would recommend reviewing the schematic against the TPS659037 design checklist (found here) to ensure all of the electrical requirements are being fulfilled. I would also recommend reviewing the TPS659037 User's Guide to Power AM574x, AM572x, and AM571x (Rev. F) to ensure the device is being used as expected with the processor.

Yeah, I referred the suggested document.

Found few changes for the following pins.

NRESWARM need to pulled up or floating, and we did pulled down
Made NSLEEP and Enable1 to GND.
Changed 27pf capacitor to 10pf of 16.384Mhz capacitor.

But, still its not working.

Please, have a look at my attached schematic and let me know what else wrong i have done?

(NOTE: currently there is no processor/controller connected, so no i2C communication)

Please note, we are using TPS6590376ZWSR 0x8A 1.3

One more query i had,

Does PMIC will work standalone without any processor to get default voltages across SMPS3 or LDO8/9?

Or we need processor during bootup?

Please help me out.

Hi Divyesh,

The part should powerup the same with or without the processor. That said, I would recommend checking various I2C registers such as the ones below, presumably you would need the processor to be connected to do this:

SMPSx_CTRL
SMPS_SHORT_STATUS
SMPSx_VOLTAGE
LDOx_CTRL

These registers which would be associated with the regulators that do not come up will indicate if the regulators are enabled or not. You could then try to enable them in I2C just to make sure communication is proper and the part responds to a relatively basic enable command.

Now, i am able to get all SMPS voltage except SMPS3 and SMPS7 through OTP configuration only without using i2C.

Just an issue of SMPS3 and 7 and not able to get acknowledgement from PMIC over i2C using 0x48 device id and SMPS12 reg 0x23.

Please guide me.
