BQ24073: Operating BQ24073 without battery

Part Number: BQ24073

Is there any danger in operating a product we have designed that uses the BQ24073 for a PMIC with the battery removed? We are having our product safety-tested and the intended deployment will be hard-wired to power. Ordinarily this would both act as a power supply and charge the battery, but this application needs to only work when plugged in and we don't want to re-design in order to remove the bq24073.

  • Hi Glenn,

    Welcome to E2E!

How is the device tested during the safety tests? The BQ24073 should be fine without a battery as VOUT(REG) is 4.4V. My only concern would be if OUT voltage were to drop because of a high current load, supplement mode is needed to maintain the output voltage.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
