LM61460-Q1: How to select the minimum peak?

Part Number: LM61460-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM61460

Hi, Team

Hope you are doing well!

In the LM61460-Q1 datasheet, there is a spec named "Minimum peak command".

Does it refer to the minimum current ripple requirement on the inductor?

Furthermore, what is the meaning of "Pulse duration"?

Thanks~

Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

The Minimum peak command does not have to do with the minimum current ripple on the inductor.

Please refer to the Inductor Selection Section 10.2.2.3 for more details on picking the appropriate inductor for a typical application.

It is generally suggested to pick an inductor such that the inductor ripple current is with 20% - 40% of the maximum current rating of the device.

  • Hi, Jimmy

    Got it.

So what does "Minimum peak command" and "Pulse duration" mean here?

    Thanks & Best Regards

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

The minimum peak command is related to the overcurrent and cycle-by-cycle current limit protection.

Since this part is a peak current mode control device, the HS current is compared to the minimum of a fixed current setpoint and/or the slope compensation every switching cycle.

The minimum of a fixed current setpoint is the minimum peak command which scales with the device current rating.

From an actual application point of view, so long as customer doesn't exceed 6A for the LM61460 the device will not be near current limit.

    Regards,

    Jimmy
