TUSB1046EVM: tusb1046evm

Hi,

Is this the same design as the one we worked on? 

Please replace C81 and C82 with 0ohm resistor and leave R50 and R51 un-populated. To debug the issue further, I really think we will need to have the CC protocol analyzer to under the root cause of the issue.

TUSB1046 or TUSB1146 EVM will be the right EVM to evaluate for this design.

Hi,

I applied as you said, but the monitor output is still not working. Would it be helpful to first buy an EVM board and check the monitor output?

The reference circuit is TUSB546 EVM (INT017A).
However, the TUSB1046 EVM (hsdc008) looks a little different when looking at the reference circuit. The TPS65982 is not in the circuit.
Which product should I buy??

Again, my purpose is USB C monitor output through the USB C port.

Hi,

TPS65982 supports PD 2.0 only which is no longer being certified by the USB-IF. TPS65987D is a PD 3.0 controller and should be used for new designs.

For your design application, please order the TUSB1046EVM from this link, https://www.ti.com/tool/TUSB1046EVM.

The HSDC008 does not have a PD controller and expects user to manually configure the Type-C.

Hi,

New designs with the TPS65987D should be cautious. I've already done the design twice. However, the monitor output through the USB C port was still not successful.

Is it possible to output a monitor with the TUSB1046EVM board?
Or would the TPS65988 EVM board be a better fit?

Please recommend an EVM board that fits my purpose.
I will purchase an EVM board, check if the monitor output is normal, and proceed with the new design.

Looking at the TPS65988 EVM board user guide, it does look like it will able to support DP over USB Type-C. But the TPS65988 EVM board is designed by our PD group and this particular EVM support will come from the PD group. I can only provide support for the TUSB1046EVM board.

TUSB1046EVM supports DP over Type-C. In theory it will work with the Type-C monitor

I am trying to operate the monitor through the USB C type port.
There are DIP SWITCH and jumper settings, do I need to change the settings to suit my purpose??

Please refer to the EVM user guide for the jumper description, https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sllu255/sllu255.pdf. You don't need to change the switch setting, but may need to change the jumper setting to properly tune the EQ. But for now, I would leave them as is first.

I checked the monitor output as it is without changing anything.

Now I'm taking a closer look at the circuit I designed and the EVM circuit.

I will organize the changes and send them to you.
Before that, should the SSTXP, SSTXN, SSRXP, and SSRXN lines of the TUSB1046 be cross-connected???
For example, I connected the USB 3.0 signal SSTXP to line 8 (SSTXP). Is it correct to connect SSRXP?

Hi,

TUSB1046 SSTX is defined as an input and SSRX is defined as an output. For SSTX, it needs to be connected to an output or transmitter. For SSRX, it needs to be connected to an input or receiver.

SSTXP(8) is connected to SSRXP.

But in my circuit, SSTXP(8) is connected to SSTXP.

SSTX and SSRX are connected to USB Receptacle. Per USB spec, SSRX of USB receptacle is defined as an input, same as SSTX of TUSB1046 I/O definition. SSTX of USB receptacle is defined as an output, same as TUSB1046 SSRX I/O definition.

The reference circuit diagram of the EVM board is TUSB1064, but the TPS65986 reference circuit you sent is TUSB1046.

I plan to make a card that outputs a monitor through a USB C type port using TUSB1046 and TPS65982.
Power for the monitor is supplied separately, and the monitor can be output through the USB C type port.
I referred to the TUSB1046 EVM board, and since I checked the monitor output with the EVM board, I referred to the EVM reference circuit if possible.

    Mounted inside the board, once connected, it stays connected.

      Also, it is not applied on the EVM board. Is it necessary to apply it?

2. USB A type Host Connector

    This connector provides USB3.0 signal.

      Connect the USB 3.0 line on the mainboard with a cable to provide SSRX/SSTX to the TUSB1046.

Does the mainboard have USB Type A or Type B connector? If the mainboard has a Type A connector, then you need to have a Type B connector

    Like number 1, once connected, it will remain connected without removing it.

      Do I need an ESD device?

Yes, to prevent any ESD discharge when you plugging in the first time.

   Referring to the EVM circuit, as you said, SSTX is connected to SSRX of TUSB1046.

      However, typical USB 3.0 pinmaps are SSRXN and SSRXP for pins 5 and 6.

      In my circuit line name, the connector's SSRXN (No. 5) is connected to the TUSB1046's SSRXN (No. 4),

      but it is the same as the connection on the actual EVM board.

The EVM uses a Type-B connector while you are using a Type-A connector. SSTX and SSRX pinout is flipped between the two connector type

3. option 0.33uF on SSRX, and 0.1uF or 0.22uF on SSTX

   Currently, the pins of the USB A connector of the EVM and the USB A connector of my board are different, 

      so I will inquire based on the TUSB1046.

      Can I apply the following based on the TUSB1046 Pin?

      -SSTXP(8): Optional 0.33uF

      -SSTXN(7): Optional 0.33uF

      -SSRXP(5): Required 0.1 or 0.22uF

      -SSRXN(4): Required 0.1 or 0.22uF

I use the Ttype A of the main board, and I want to apply Type A, not Type B, to the board I want to make.
Can I connect the lines like below?

Q1)

The ESD element was applied as the same product for the USB line and the DP line. (TPD4E05U06)

Any problem? (In the case of TPD8S009, delivery is a concern)

Also, AUX_P, AUX_N are not applied, should I include them here too?? with the same part?

- DEBUG_CTL2(D5): 100K PD

The default is USB A Connector.

EVM was of type B, but I would like to apply it as type A.

Could you provide me with some sort of list of the component's values (capacitors and resistors). I am not able to tell if any changes were made from the previous design to the capacitor values. You could also create a new column on the checklist indicating the changes made. That would be very helpful.

If the main board already has Type A connector, then you have to use a Type B connector on your board. A Type-A to Type-A cable is a violation of the USB spec. 

If you are using the Type-A connector, then the connection is correct. 

You can use TPD4S010 for AUX ESD protection.

Long time no see
I made a new board and checked it... but the monitor output is still not working.

In the case of the EVM board, if you connect the USB C type port to the monitor, you can check 5V on VBUS,

but the board I made cannot check the power on VBUS even if you connect it to the monitor. (0V)

All of the power supply parts, such as LDO_3V3, LDO_1V8, and VOUT_3V3, seem to have normal outputs.
If there is no output like me, where should I find the cause of the problem?

I'm in a very frustrating situation...
