TPS22990: High capacitive load

Part Number: TPS22990

Hi Team,

Can you please help us with our customer's inquiry below?

In my applications are the capacitive load 1-2mF at 3.3V, according to datasheet it is possibly to use up to 10nF CT capacitor and at 3.3V is the output voltage rise time 0.4ms and at 2mF load will the charge current be up to 15A, and 15A is more than the 3.3V supply can handle.

So my question is if it is possibly to use higher value at the CT capacitor so the charge current will be reduced, 47nF give theoretical a rise time of approx. 2ms and the charge current will be approx. 3A, or will the MOSFET be damaged because of too long operating time in the linear region?

After startup will the current be less than 4A.

Is there any SOAR diagram for the MOSFET available?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

There is no hard limit on the capacitor value on the CT pin. The only limitation is that a longer turn on time could cause the device to heat up.
Additionally, we do not spec any timing for CT values outside of the CT values specified in the datasheet or provide any SOAR diagram for the MOSFET.

    Best Regards,

    Elizabeth
