HD3SS3220: USB3 Differential line

Part Number: HD3SS3220
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 3220DFP-DGLEVM,

Hi team,

The way the differential lines are connected in the evaluation board (3220DFP-DGLEVM) schematic Figure 8.Schematic (page 2) and the way the differential lines are connected in the HD3SS3220 data sheet page 28, Figure 8-2. Can you please confirm and explain the difference? Do we recommend the EVM schematic?

Regards,

Hayashi

HD3SS3220 is a passive MUX + CC controller, so it does not matter how the HD3SS3220 TX and RX is being connected, you just have to make sure the data path direction from end to end is correct.

For the Type-C receptacle, the TX1/2 is being defined as an output and the RX1/2 is being defined as an input.

So for the datasheet which has a USB host and HD3SS3220, the data path direction is show below assume host SSTX is an output and SSRX is an input.

For the EVM which has a USB plug, the data path direction is opposite as shown below

And here is the path going through HD3SS3220

So either implementation will work, you can choose the one that gives you the easiest layout routing.

    Thanks
