LM34936EVM: benefits of D1 and D2

Part Number: LM34936EVM

Hi support team,

Are D1 and D2 also in current EVM?
What are the benefits of D1 and D2?

Regards,
Dice-K

  • Hello Dice-K,

D1 and D2 are on the backside of the EVM and populated. These are in parallel of the backgate diode of the MOSFETs and during dead time take over the current through the MOSFET. If properly selected, they can reduce the losses in the MOSFET and increase efficiency.

  • Hi Brigitte,
    Thank you for your reply.

Looking at the "Original question", I don't think the effects of D1 and D2 are high.
Do you recommend installig D1 and D2?
There is no description of the design method in the data sheet, and I do not know what kind of diode is required.
Need 20V or 60V withstand voltage?
We use it under the following conditions.

    Vin: 10~17V
    Vout: 12V
    Iout: 3~4A

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hello Dice-K,

You are right, the effect of these diodes is most probable a lot less than selecting the right MOSFET. So I would not install them in general, but if performance is extremely important, I would place them on the PCB and use a standard package. Voltage and current rating needs to be the same as for the MOSFET.

    Best regards,
