TPS43061: Recommended FET

Part Number: TPS43061
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD87330Q3D, CSD86330Q3D, CSD87333Q3D, CSD87334Q3D

Hi team,

My customer is considering to use this device and wants to know the recommendation for the external FETs (QL)

[customer’s use case]

Vin: 12V

Vout: 24V

Iout: 5A

In the EVM, CSD86330Q3D is used for the FETs. Will this still be the recommendation? Or the CSD87330Q3D, newer version?

Regards,

Ohashi

  • Hello Ohashi,

In general we recommend using the newest available components. I will forward your question to the team responsible for FETs, as I do not know the differences of these in detail.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte

  • Hello Ohashi-san,

Thanks for the inquiry. For 24V out, I would definitely recommend using a 30V power block device over the 25V device. We have a number of products in the 3.3x3.3mm SON package. The CSD87334Q3D should give the lowest power loss as the FETs are symmetric (same die size and on resistance) and is optimized for higher duty cycle operation such as a boost converter. The CSD87333Q3D is the lowest cost but the power loss will be higher. It also has symmetric FETs but they are higher on resistance. Lastly, the CSD87330Q3D has asymmetric (larger low side/smaller high side) FETs and the predicted performance and cost is in between the other two 30V power blocks. We have an Excel-based sync boost FET selection tool available at the link below. It allows the user to input their requirements and compare up to 3 different TI FET solutions (discrete or power block). I filled out the attached spreadsheet and used it to make these recommendations. Please let me know if you have any questions.
