BQ51013A: VQFN to BGA

Part Number: BQ51013A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

So basically my question is that I have worked with the BQ51013 module (VQFN) in my previous PCBs and it was all right! However, I had some constraints on my PCB size so I moved toward a smaller package (BGA) and I face a strange problem!

So the issue was that although the V_rect reaches 7 volts and it is communicating with the transceiver, the voltage in output is around 1.6V (no load connected!)

However, the design should be all fine because another PCB that I had (exactly the same) worked properly! So I am wondering what is the problem with that specific IC? what would you recommend me to do? What is the problem?

Below are the design files.

Once again, It is worth mentioning that as I said, I have one PCB which is working properly and the other one which has the V_rect built up to 7.08V but the V_out is not more than 1.6 V!

Regards,

CSC

  • Hi CSC

If the RECT voltage is good then area to investigate is control signals for the 5V LDO (OUT).  Check the ILIM R1 / R2 circuit and connections.

One working unit and one problem unit points to an assembly issue.  Solder issues with the BGA are possibly a cause.
