LP5569: [LP55xx vs. LP50xx] Description of the differences and functions of the two products, request for data

Part Number: LP5569
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5018, LP5009, LP5813

Hi, TI support team

Please respond to inquiries received from customers.

- Please explain the functions listed below.

- Please explain in detail about Autonomous animation control.

- Please tell us about the typical difference between LP50xx (LP5018) and LP55xx (LP5569).

According to the datasheet, it is confirmed that the LP55xx series has built-in functions for LED operation such as dimming/sequencing.

If you have more detailed information, please provide it.

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

    For your questions:

    (1) Please explain in detail about Autonomous animation control

    - LP5569 has internal memory for storing control instructions, with these instructions, LP5569 could achieve very complex autonomous animation effects without MCU control, for example, you can use the ramp instruction and put it in an endless loop to let the achieve auto breathing function, you can control the start and end of this effect by configuring chx_exec register.

    (2) Please tell us about the typical difference between LP50xx (LP5018) and LP55xx (LP5569).

Considering LP5569 only has 9 output channels, I will use LP5009 to do this comparation.

         1)  - LP5009 can support 12-bit PWM dimming, but the current level is set by external resistor

              - LP5569 can support 8-bit PWM dimming, and it can also support 8-bit individual current level setting by configuring related registers.

         2)  - LP5569 can support auto animation function, which can control the output autonomously by internal instructions without MCU control.

              - LP5009 don't have auto animation engines, so if you need to achieve animation effect, you need to continually write configurations for register by MCU to adjust the output

         3)  - LP5569 has integrated charge-pump, so it will be more suitable for battery application

              - LP5009 doesn't have integrated charge-pump, so it needs an external power supply for LED powering.

Besides, we will release a new device named LP5813 in 4Q23, this device can support up to 12 LED dots with only 4 output channels, and it also has integrated boost and auto animation engine, and its animation engine is more easily to use than LP5569.

    Thanks!
