TPS53119: Reg Max Current Confusion over Product info & webench

Part Number: TPS53119
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD86350Q5D

Hi TI Team,

I Thought of using TPS53119 in one of my project, where my requirement is Vin : 12VDC (Nominal), Vout : 0.8V, Iout : 20.6Amp(Nominal) & 22Amp(Max). I had simulated the same in webench(even i have selected the part through webench) and the results are fine, while i was checking the data sheet and part information it was written that MAX current is 20AMP as mentioned in the below images First one refers from Part Details & second one is from Webench.

Even i have tried te rise time & load transient analysis and results look good. attaching report for the reference.

Hence i request you to clear the confusion over the same & let me know weather can i use the this part for my requirements.

The TPS53119 is a controller with external MOSFETs.  The current level is can support depends significantly on the MOSFETs that it is driving.  20A is a general recommendation on the size of MOSFETs that the TPS53119's drivers are intended to drive.  It is not a "MAX" limit spec, but a general recommendation.

I checked the CSD86350Q5D and the gate charge is well within the limitations of the TPS53119's driver capabilities.

One possible concern is the high power dissipation in the M1 Dual MOSFET, at 2.275W, it has an estimated die temperature of 100C.  You might want to consider separate high-side and low-side MOSFETs instead of a dual MOSFET to spread the heat.
