TPS720: Wants to know the dropout voltage

Part Number: TPS720

Hi Team

We are planning to use the TPS720132YZUT part to generate the 1.32V for our system. Find the below system requirement.

Vin = 1.5V

Vout = 1.32V

Vbias = 3.7V

Iout(max) = 300mA

 As per the datasheet Vin >= Vout +0.5V and Vdo-in = 110mV.

Shall it possible to proceed as per the defined requirement of product?

Or shall we need to change the input voltage to 1.8V to proceed with this part?

For this part webench simulation is available or not? please confirm to proceed with this part.

Best Regards,

Kiran

  • Hi Kiran,

    Since the dropout is linear with load current, you can calculate the max dropout spec at IOUT = 350mA as 200mV * 300mA / 350mA = 171mA. Furthermore, depending on the operating temperature in your application, the max dropout spec goes down from the maximum since the maximum is at the highest temperature (125C).

    Do you expect many transients on the 1.5V rail? 9mV isn't a whole lot of margin if there are a lot of transients.

    Regards,

    Nick
