BQ24170EVM-610-15V: What is the Maximum Input Power can be supplied to the Module

Part Number: BQ24170EVM-610-15V
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD17318Q2

Hi Team,

I interested to know if we can use BQ24170EVM-610-15V module with minimum or no changes to use it in our proto device for input power of 15V, 230W (around 15A) to charge a 3S2P Battery (12.6V; 4.2V/ each cell).

Please let me know if the eval module can withstand 15A, input current. If Yes, please let me know the possible changes to be done on the eval module for that purpose. If not, please suggest a suitable Evaluation module for above mentioned application, to quickly procure and build our proto device.

Charging Voltage for Battery: 12.69V

Charging Current for Battery: 1.9A

Please let me know if you need any further information.

  • Hi Vijay,

No.  Per the table below, the EVM is only designed for 8A input current.

The input FETS are the problem:

CSD17318Q2 is the newer version of these FETs and can handle up to 22A of current.  In theory (meaning I haven't tested), if you change Q2 and Q3 to those FETs and then change the ISET pin resistor divider (R30 and R32) for your ICHARGE=1.9A, the EVM should work for you.

    Regards,

    Jeff
