LM61480-Q1: -5V Inverting output possible?

Part Number: LM61480-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM61480,

I'm looking into using the LM61480 configured to have an inverted output,  as described in TI app note SNVA856B.

Are there any issues where this component would not work in this configuration?

Vin = +24V

Vout = -5V

Iout = 4A  (variable from 200mA to 4A)

The load is an LED which will be driven from +/-5V  (5V rail generated by another LM61480)

  • Hello,

    There should be no issues with using the LM61480-Q1 device for your specific application.

    Referencing the SNVA856B app note and assuming the following (n = 85%, delta = 30% of Iout) the calculated Ipeak and Ivalley at full load are 5.6A and 4.4A respectively.

    Since the calculate inductor current peak and valley is lower than the high side and low side current limit of the LM61480-Q1, this application should work.

    Regards,

    Jimmy
