TPS25820: how to realize the OTG in type C port.

Hello,

I plan to design a type c interface with TPS25820 and TUSB1210. The requirement is

1. support up to 3.0 version.

2. support host and devcie mode as well as USB 2.0 OTG devices.

the architecture I plan to impelement is simply shown as below

A few question may ask for answer.

1. do I need to wire the /sink signal to the MPU to detect whehter the port should be activated as host (eg. a usb stick is inserted) or device (eg. a laptop is connected)

2. According to USB-IF document, OTG is not compatible with type c. Is it possible to use an adapter which connect the CC1,CC2 to the ID pin?

3. if #2 can work, how should I handle the ID pin of TUSB1210?

Hi,

TPS25820 is a source only (power role) and DFP (data role) only (host only device). What you are looking for, the OTG support (meaning support for both host and device), is not achievable with this device.

What is your power capability you are looking at besides the data capability requirement you listed?

oh~, i assume that the TPS25820 is not only a power source but a CC controller as well. Power delivery is not the main purpose. OTG support is the target to be realized. but OTG is not compatible with type C

Hi,

I believe the OTG here means the device's capability to be both UFP and DFP. However to make a device recommendation here I need to know the power role (source, sink, or DRP?) and data role (seems like what you need is dual role data).

Hi,

data role: yes, dual role data

power role: It should be source only,. I don't think the MPU should be powered by a laptop in my case.
