TPS1HB08-Q1: How to understand Imax?

Part Number: TPS1HB08-Q1

Hi team,

For HS switch like TPS1HB08, TPS2HB16, how to understand Imax parameter in the product folder? The Imax of TPS1HB08 is 10A, why current limit can up to 70A? Thanks!

  • Hi Jiawei,

The Imax current listed for the TPS1HB08 and TPS2HB16 devices refers to the maximum continuous DC current the high side switch can support. The current limit, on the other hand, is a safety feature that offers an adjustable maximum current allowed through the device before it shuts down. This improves system reliability while allowing for the flexibility of going over Imax for short periods of time (to support applications like bulb driving), depending on the limit defined by the customer.

It’s important to note that the current limit range varies between device versions. For example, the TPS1HB08-Q1 device has a range of 6.4 A to 32 A for version A; 14 A to 70 A for version B; and an internally set limit of 94 A for version F. The current limit is resistor programmable for devices that offer an adjustable current limit.

    Best Regards,

    Gabriel
