LM5123-Q1: Single Phase Boost Limit

Part Number: LM5123-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-020033, , TAS6584-Q1

Hi experts,

My customer think about LM5123-Q1 + TAS6584-Q1 solution. (TIDA-020033)

At TAS6584, they are thinking 100Wx4ch=400W. Is it possible to boost in single phase? Following is conditions in LM5123.

Fsw: 2.1MHz

Vout: (Now I am asking to customer)

Power: peak 400W

  • Hello Youhei,

In general it depends on the time for the duration of the peak power and the effectivity of the cooling available.

At the end a peak power of 500W is possible, but at a switching frequency of 2.1MHz, the power dissipation in the switches might be significant. In addition, as the drivers are inside the LM5123-Q1, the device needs to handle the power dissipation caused by the switch capacitances times the on resistance of the driver switches, so this might be significant as well. I recommend using the quickstart calculator to estimate the power dissipation in the switches: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slvrbj1

So the peak power capability is heavily dependent on the power dissipation handling in the design.
