BQ25173: How can I control the charge from a micro-controller or similar?

Part Number: BQ25173

Hi,

The charge current is set via a resistor on ISET pin, and the lower the resistance the higher the current you can draw from the source. The EVM comes with a potentiometer, but I want to be able to control the charge current from a micro-controller.

Would a digital pot work in this application? Or maybe a voltage controller current sink?

Do you have any app notes related to this that I can study?

  • Hi Gus

The ISET pin is a sample of the output current, ratio is 1 to 300, so current will be low. The resistor from ISET to ground will develop voltage for the current regulation control loop.  Standard configuration is a single resistor from ISET pin to ground.  A common circuit is to connect a 2ed resistor with MOSFET that can be switched in to increase current.  This would be a high and low charge current.

No testing with other devices on the ISET pin has been done.
