BQ24618: How to fully charge a 6-cell battery by using a 24V adapter

Part Number: BQ24618

Hi TI Teams,

We plan to use the BQ24618 for 6-cells battery charging, and the voltage of the battery are fully charged at around 25V. From the datasheet we can learned that the BQ24618 is a buck battery charging IC, so how can we fully charge the battery by a adapter with 24V output? Or is there any better recommendation for selection for this application?

Thanks,

Kind Regards

  • Hi Lumina,

The BQ24618 is a buck charge controller, therefore, the input voltage needs to be higher than the full charge voltage of the 6-cell battery for it to be fully charged. We are releasing a new buck-boost charge controller in the next couple weeks which will meet your need to fully charge 6-cell Li-ion battery from 24V adapter. Please check back by the end of this  month. Thanks for your patience.

    Regards,

    Jing
