BQ25898: Sleep Current Measurment with inserted Battery

Part Number: BQ25898

Hello,

We would like to measure the sleep current consumption of the BQ25898 in our test production.

To get accurate readings we would like to disconnect the battery (BATFET / shipmode) and supply VSYS 3.5V on SYS to power the down stream system.

Questions:

Is it possible to remain in shipmode even if VUSB is supplied?

Is there any risk to the battery charger if SYS is externally supplied (backpower, reverse voltage, etc.)?

Thank you and best regards,

Ambroise

  • Hi Ambroise,

    Please see my comments below.

In general the current consumption in shipmode spec is measured at BAT pin not SYS pin, but it is okay to connect 3.5V at SYS while shipmode is enabled.

Is there any risk to the battery charger if SYS is externally supplied (backpower, reverse voltage, etc.)?

As long as customer does not apply too large of a voltage (absolute maximum allowable voltage at SYS when converter is not switching is 6V) it is okay to connect an external supply to SYS.

Is it possible to remain in shipmode even if VUSB is supplied?

I am not sure what you mean by VUSB, but assuming you are referring to VBUS input no it is not possible to stay in shipmode when VBUS is applied. An adapter plug in is an event to exit ship mode.

    Regards,

    Garrett
