BQ2947: Can be changed every cell filter resistor to 0402?

Part Number: BQ2947

Dear Ti expert,

because my pcb board space limited,R13,R14,R15 and R18 these filter resistor can changed to 0402 packaging? the CD pin voltage is 5V?

have a nice day!

  • Hello,

If you need more space, then switching to a smaller resistor package is okay if the resistor you select can dissipate the necessary amount of power without generating heat outside of your desired thermal specs.

It is hard to give you a definitive yes or no answer, but I would go through your system and determine how much power will be dissipated over your cell input resistors based on your cell voltage.  After that, I would make sure that the resistor you select is rated for that power dissipation and won't generate excessive heat.

Since the current input to the VC pins should be low (see table 7.5 in the datasheet), and the BQ2947 does not perform cell balancing, the resistors should not have much current through them.  For this application, a resistor with a lower power dissipation should be okay, but please ensure that the estimated power dissipation and thermal specs will be okay for your system before implementing these changes.

    Best,

    Andria
