LM25118: Exceeded absolute maximum rating of UVLO pin

Part Number: LM25118

Hello,

We are using the LM25118 in a design. We had an issue with some devices where the 24V VIN voltage was directly applied to the UVLO pin. This is over the absolute maximum rating of the UVLO pin, which is 16V. The LM25118 still works as it outputs the correct voltage. For the UVLO pin, we have to run some tests to determine if it still functions as expected.

Do you think this can cause long term issues for the LM25118 IC? If we determine that the UVLO function still works, are there other potential issues that we should be aware of?

Thank you

  • Hello Philippe,

Thanks for reaching out to us via e2e.

As it is stated in the datasheet:
Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device.
Exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability.

In other words, any kind of damage can happen, also to other blocks of the IC which may not seem to be related to that pin.
The part may appear to be working but can be degraded in some unpredictable way.
A more visible damage may appear after longer use.

Long story short: Even after a short stress above the Abs max rating, the device is not reliable anymore.

    Best regards,
    Harry
