BQ24171: BQ24171

Part Number: BQ24171

I have some queries related to the design of the BQ24171 charger circuit.

Q1. In the application circuit of the same, a N channel reverse blocking FET is added in the circuit ,whose source pin is connected to the source of ACFET. how it blocks the reverse polarity? since the drive voltage for the both FET's are considered as CMSRC +6V . it will be completely on unless a low drive signal is provided to the gate.so could you please explain how it act as RBFET?

Q2. what is the purpose of ACDRV ?

  • Hi Arjun,

The reverse blocking FET is driven by a charge pump with output at ACDRV.  If the sensed input voltage from the resistor divider at OVPSET is inside the under and over voltage window per the resistor divider, ACDRV outputs CMSRC+6V to the gate's FET to turn it on.  If not, the FET turns off and its body diode prevents reverse current from flowing from the battery back to the input, hence reverse blocking.

    Regards,
