BQ28Z610-R1: Series balancing resitors

Part Number: BQ28Z610-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z610

Hi,

I found some inconsistencies in the selection of balancing resistors. In the BQ28Z610-R1 (SLUSE07A) datasheet, page 19, paragraph 8.3.13, balancing resistors with a value between 100ohm and 1Kohm are recommended. In the same datasheet the example diagram shows RVC2 = 5 ohm. In the Technical Reference (SLUUC81) on page 42, Cell Balancing Setup, RVC2=105ohm is calculated. What is the correct resistor to put in series with VC2? 5ohm or 105ohm?

Regard,

Paolo Colombo

  • Paolo,

The BQ28z610 does not have an assign pin as BAT. The VC2 pin acts as cell-2 voltage and as the BAT pin at the same time.

Using 5-Ohms helps with lower voltage drop at the BAT voltage. If you are ok with voltage drop, then you can use 100-Ohm resistor at VC2.
